Get a Higher Search Engine Ranking with Proper Keyword Density

Posted by Reyn | August 24, 2008

Search Engines love relevancy.

The more relevant your content is, the higher the likelihood for your site to appear at the top. In checking relevancy, search engines look at the keyword density as one of the most important measurements.

Keyword density is an indicator of the number of times the selected keyword appears in the web page. But mind you, keywords shouldn’t be over used, but should be just sufficient enough to appear at important places.

If you repeat your keywords with every other word on every line, then your site will probably be rejected as an artificial site or spam site.

Keyword density is always expressed as a percentage of the total word content on a given web page.

Suppose you have 100 words on your webpage (not including HMTL code used for writing the web page), and you use a certain keyword for five times in the content.

The keyword density on that page is got by simply dividing the total number of keywords, by the total number of words that appear on your web page. So here it is 5 divided by 100 = .05. Because keyword density is a percentage of the total word count on the page, multiply the above by 100, that is 0.05 x 100 = 5%

The accepted standard for a keyword density is between 3% and 5%, to get recognized by the search engines and you should never exceed it.

Remember, that this rule applies to every page on your site. It also applies to not just to one keyword but also a set of keywords that relates to a different product or service. The keyword density should always be between 3% and 5%.

Here are some great relevancy tips for your keywords:

Although having a healthy keyword density is good, remember to always put human viewers as your first priority. Give benefits to your visitors with valuable content, products or services. It is so much more important as ultimately, your visitor is the one that will join your network marketing business, not search engine.

If you want to know your site’s keyword density, just Google search “keyword density checker” to find services to calculate your keyword density for free.

Great topic & it has covered several points regarding
search engine optimization. But I got a question, do you think onpage factors or offpage factors play a bigger role for SEO? Please advise

Good question, Jo! Both on-page and off-page optimization play important roles. Not one is less important as the other. Here’s how it goes…

First of all, to be picked up by search engines, your site content must be relevant. Means you have to maximize your on-page optimization. Even if you have many links to your site, it won’t help much. Search engines always check your site for keywords relevancy first.

After that, off-page optimization will determine the outcome of your ranking for your specified keywords. So it’s a 2-step method which you have to do both.
