Infusing Loyalty To Your Twitter Followers

Posted by Reyn | December 4, 2008

First of all, you need to understand that Twitter is a social networking site. Hence, to further expand your online presence, you need a lot of loyal followers.

Notice the 2 keywords here: “a lot” and “loyal”.

Having a lot of followers is extremely crucial, but for them to be a part of your marketing force, you need more than just quantity. They also have to be loyal to you. You can’t have one without the other for getting desirable results. It’s actually a two-step strategy

On the previous post, we already covered on how you can build a huge list of followers on Twitter. Now, we’ll be discussing on how to make them loyal to you and responsive to your tweets.

  1. Provide valuable information

In the world of internet marketing, people go to blog to find more information about the niche they’re in. The concept of Twitter is micro-blogging and the same principle applies. People following you in the hope of gaining more tips, strategies or news about that particular niche. Or if you are just a beginner, they may follow you because they want to know more about you. Either way, they scrutinize your tweets and ask themselves, “Is this person worth following? Should I care about the content of his/her tweets?”

So give them what they want, valuable information. Your tweets don’t have to be about the little-known secrets or underground strategies. Whenever you stumble upon a website that give you fresh and resourceful information, just share the url in your tweets and give a bit of comment. “Hey, I just saw this article about a lady who wrote 250 articles in just 6 months. Check it out: http://xxxxx”

For me, I like sharing motivational and success quotes. So whenever I come across a nice quote, I just post it on Twitter. It’s really feel amazing to share these kind of quotes. I had several friends thanked me for the quotes.

  2. Never sell blatantly

Once I followed a guy who tweets every 10 minutes or so. His tweets seems to be automated and they contain basically the same thing repeated over and over again. It irritated me as I always expecting the latest tweets from marketing experts I followed, but when I check my Twitter homepage, this guy tweets take up the first 10 row.

It’s good if you want to sell something that you believe will add values to your followers, but don’t do it too often. If you really want to repeat the offer frequently, then I suggest you write a post in your blog reviewing that product and share the post instead of the direct link.

  3. Tweet regularly

A frequent exposures is important to build relationship with your followers. If you always giving valuable tweets, people are expecting them to come often. Once a day is the minimal to keep their attention on your words.

  4. Engage in discussions

Along the way, you will notice some nice tweet from the people you followed. If you feel you want give a comment or feedback, just hit ‘reply to xxxx’. Don’t write something too personal or direct though. Some people will be offended if they get it from someone they don’t know.

Building loyalty takes time. Be patient and keep nurturing your followers. When trust begins to blossom, your followers will be responsive to your tweets and take immediate action based on your direction.
